Permanent exhibition on the history of Plavinas HPP
2019
Plavinas Hydroelectric Power Plant is the biggest hydropower plant in the Baltics and one of the biggest in Europe. The power station complex houses a new permanent exhibition that gives visitors of Plavinas HPP a broad introduction to this engineering structure. They can learn about building of Plavinas HPP in 1960ies, understand better the way hydroelectric plants work, or explore the collection of historic electric instruments.
The design of exhibition is restrained and corresponds to its industrial surroundings. The exhibition is installed in one undivided space, and visitors can intuitively grasp its structure and message right at the start of their visit. A striking projection of falling water gives the exhibition its dynamics. An animated hologram helps to imagine the building process of Plavinas HPP. The guide to the exhibition controls a multimedia program that is connected to a projection above the scheme of the Daugava cascade of HPPs, and depending on the interests of the particular visiting group, the guide can choose the relevant theme for projection on the wall.
